Born 11 Feb in Southern Africa as one of six talented children. Dorethea was raised in a Christian home with a pastor and missionary as her father and an ultruistic social working mother. In her early teens Dorethea and her family emigrated from Rhodesia to neighbouring South Africa during the political distress and civil war. Being very grounded and well disciplined in her upbringing and experiencing the realities of life as a child, Dorethea became a woman of real character and inspiration in a world filled with chaos and shallow fleeting philosophies while continuing to incorporate her beliefs and experiences into her songwriting and everyday life. Dorethea began drawing and playing piano as a child and studied classical music during her school years. As a teenager she was awarded a bursary to study architecture at university and graduated with an honours degree. In the years that ensued it was her passion for the arts and music that would steer Dorethea away from the calculating male dominated world of architecture to a colorful fun filled career as a mural artist. Bringing joy to the world through color and pictures was a philosophy that trickled through into her equally vivid and imaginative songwriting. It was always the art of music that was closest to Dorethea’s heart and one which would also prove to be the most challenging to realize in an over saturated music industry dominated by major players and greedy record companies. But the dream materialized and has culminated in Dorethea’s breakthrough debut album Hope's Wings...
